The Public Relation Officer of the Abuakwa North Municipal Education Directorate, Sampson Kwafo Akoto has revealed that the Family Strengthening Programme initiated five years ago by the Asiakwa SOS Children’s Villages has contributed significantly to academic performance of schools in the municipality.
This, he said has reflected in tremendous improvement in the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
He made the revelation during the 50th Anniversary Open Day Celebration of SOS Children’s Villages, Ghana at the Asiakwa location in the Eastern Region.
The Asiakwa SOS Children’s Villages since its presence in the Abuakwa North Municipality through its Family Strengthening Programmes at New Tafo for the past five years has impacted numerous lives of children and young people in the Abuakwa North Municipality.
This span from the provision of business start-ups machines to the youth to the provision of sanitary facilities and potable water to schools and communities, and organizing of training workshops for teachers and learners on advanced teaching and learning skills, among others in the Abuakwa North Municipality.
The Public Relation Officer of the Abuakwa North Municipal Education Directorate, Mr. Kwafo Akoto delivering a speech on behalf of the Abuakwa North Municipal Education Director, Grace Adza-Awude noted that as part of equipping educators and learners with strategies for improved educational outcomes, Asiakwa SOS Children’s Villages has organized training workshops for teachers and students in the municipality.
These trainings, he said, have empowered teachers to adopt effective teaching methods and students to achieve their academic potentials.
A member of the Child’s Right Club formed by Asiakwa SOS Children’s Villages, and a student of Tontro M/A Basic School, Sheila Borkom noted that the club has given them the opportunity to advocate for their right as children and also raise awareness about their plights.
The Programmes Director of Asiakwa SOS Children’s Villages, Josephine Afrawuah stated the 50th Anniversary Open Day Celebration was to offer a diverse arena of activities, presentations and showcasing of the best of what SOS can offer.
It was also to give opportunity to beneficiaries to share their impact stories to programme participants, stakeholders, donors and friends of SOS.
