The Ghanaian Times congratulates two outgoing top security officials, the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong- Boanuh and Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service Patrick Darko-Missah on their dedicated service to the nation and bowing out honorably. The paper also applauds two other officials who are incoming, the Acting IGP, COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and the Acting Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Isaac Kofi Egyir. While wishing the outgoing officers the best in their endeavors, the Times reminds the newly promoted officers to take on board workable views from stakeholders in the discharge of their duties. The paper expects the new IGP, Dr. Dampare, to prioritise all manner of crimes as well as road safety issues. The paper says while both officers have the best intentions to discharge their duties, they should constantly analyse their institution-specific problems and solve them to achieve effective results.
The Daily Graphic welcomes the advice by the IMF for government to use its fiscal consolidation to restore debt credibility. The paper is of the view that the country will suffer more if its debt situation is not tackled urgently as COVID 19 continues to damage the economy. It says as the country looks forward to credible measures to bring down its debt, the Ghana Revenue Authority must work harder to shore up revenue to help reduce the need for borrowing to finance projects. It calls on Labour to be measured in demand for higher remunerations, as three budget items namely interest payments, compensation of public employees and transfers to statutory funds currently consume more than 100 percent of total revenue and grants.
