Ghana has joined the rest of the world to commemorate International Literacy Day.
The day reminds the world of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities, and societies and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies.
This year’s celebration is on the theme, ‘Literacy for a Human-Centered Recovery, Narrowing the Digital Divide.’ Speaking to GBC NEWS, a former Minister of Education, Professor Dominic Fobih noted poor reading habits especially among children is a phenomenon threatening the educational system.
While acknowledging governmental role in the promotion of literacy, Professor Fobih called for a multi-stakeholder approach to create an environment for literacy education to flourish.
