A Deputy Minister for Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, says the Ministry is working around the clock to ensure that Ghanaian students are not left out of the global robotics space.
According to him, robotics is taking centre stage in the global workforce, thus government, through the Education Ministry, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure Ghanaian students are abreast of technological advancement.
“Today robotics is taking over the workforce, thus government is doing all it can to create the enabling environment to make robotics training accessible to all Ghanaian students.”
The Deputy Education Minister said this when the Country Representative of Coderina Education and Technology Foundation presented sets of Lego kits for the 2024 edition of the national robotic competition at the Minister’s conference room in Accra.
He explained that the competition, which is organised by Coderina in partnership with the ministry, is a powerful program that uses robotics and project-based learning principles to engage younger children in playful and meaningful learning within elements of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEM) while helping them to discover the fun in science and technology.
“Currently, there are over 100 schools with more than 5000 children, and students have been trained since 2021,” Rev Fordjour stated.
He is therefore urging all students to take learning of robotics seriously since it has become an integral component of engineering, medicine, science, and agriculture, among others.
On his part, the Country Rep. for Codedina, Mr. Ben Amoakoh, hinted that the 2024 edition of the competition will comprise 25 selected senior high schools and six junior high schools across the country.
He explained that participants in this year’s edition of the competition will explore how emerging technologies like AI and VR can be applied to the world of art, music, and cultural preservation.
“This program dubbed Masterpiece, ensures that young minds from diverse backgrounds come together. It emphasises collaboration and inclusivity, enriching participants experiences and encouraging mutual learning,” he emphasised.
