On June 23, 2024, the Ghana Olympic Committee joined the global community in celebrating Olympic Day 2024. This year’s theme, “Let’s Move and Celebrate,” aims to generate excitement for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris by promoting physical activity and fostering a sense of unity through sports. The celebration serves as a reminder of the importance of fitness and camaraderie, encouraging people worldwide to engage in sports and live healthier lives.

The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Ben Nunoo Mensah, expressed his enthusiasm for the day, particularly spotlighting Ghanaian athletes. He commended their relentless efforts and determination to achieve greatness on the Olympic stage. Mr Mensah highlighted the committee’s dedication to inspiring individuals to pursue a healthier and more joyful lifestyle through sports, reflecting the core values of the Olympic movement.

Mr Mensah also emphasised that the Olympic Day celebrations are a precursor to the Paris 2024 Games, aiming to build excitement and foster a unique Olympic atmosphere in Ghana. He noted the significance of the upcoming Games, which will be the first to achieve full gender parity and align entirely with the reforms of the Olympic Agenda. This milestone represents a progressive step forward for the Olympic community and underscores the importance of inclusivity and equality in sports.

To mark the occasion, the Ghana Olympic Committee, along with the broader Olympic movement, will host a series of events on June 26, 2024. These events will take place at the Nima Cluster of schools and will include mass participation activities and digital engagements. The celebrations aim to bring together athletes, fans, and the Olympic community, creating a festive and participatory atmosphere that resonates with the Olympic spirit.

Through these events, the Ghana Olympic Committee seeks to instill a sense of pride and anticipation for Paris 2024 while also promoting the values of health, unity, and joy that are at the heart of the Olympic movement.
