The first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic last year saw the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital exceeding its expenditure, in the use of human and material resources.

In the process, 368 members of staff of the hospital were infected, with one death recorded.

Also, the hospital’s daily expenses inflated its per capita income causing a decline in revenue generation.

These were made known by the Chief Executive of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso at the 2020 End of Year Performance Review Conference, in Kumasi.

Dr. Owusu-Danso said financially the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected the operations of the facility.

He said although the hospital anticipated a rise in revenue generation at the beginning of the year, the rise in ailments and infections compelled the hospital authorities to exceed their budget.

Dr. Owusu-Danso commended President Akufo-Addo for his intervention to secure the first batch of the COVID-19 vaccines, which has led to the successful vaccination of more than seven thousand health personnel during the first phase of the exercise.

He reiterated the hospital made strides in reducing maternal mortality.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, commended staff of health facilities in the region.

He singled out Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for making strides, during the peak of the pandemic.
