Director General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan, has called on stakeholders in Education to introduce media literacy in the curriculum.
Speaking on GBC flagship programme “What is next” on the topic “Media and Public Decency”, Prof. Alhassan said this will help do away with fake news on the airwaves.
Prof. Alhassan said it has been observed that fake news travels faster, therefore children must be educated on that from the basic level to help curb it.
He expressed worry that most news portals especially, online platforms only spread fake news to attract people instead of educating the public.
He asked the media to be gate keepers and avoid contents that are not desirable, adding that, content must be regulated.
Speaking on the Broadcasting Bill, Prof. Alhassan said there must be a framework to regulate it saying the media industry has changed over the years.
