The Daily Graphic says dealing with pirate attacks in the Gulf of Guinea requires a regional cooperative maritime security approach. This approach it says will make maritime safety and security a shared responsibility and enable regional states to conduct cross-border patrols and share law enforcement intelligence. The paper urges governments of Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria to adopt a unified stand on the issue of armed guards. The Graphic says stemming the tide of attacks demands more deliberate cross-cutting efforts that incorporate preventive, deterrent and collaborative measures among national and regional stakeholders.
