Irene Boakye-Danquah, the founder of the Readers Bay Foundation, has called on corporate organizations in Ghana to support efforts aimed at improving literacy and numeracy levels among underprivileged children.

Speaking in an interview, Mrs. Boakye-Danquah emphasized the foundation’s commitment to ensuring every child in Ghana receives a quality education, regardless of their background.

“For years, we have relied on donor support because we believe that every child in Ghana has the right to quality education,” she said.

“Our goal is to bridge the gap between children in Grade A or B schools and those who do not have the same privileges.”

Madam Irene highlighted the upcoming Reading Caravan, scheduled for the next quarter, as a key initiative in their efforts.

“We are calling on corporate Ghana to support us so that we can reach as many communities as possible. The Reading Caravan is an essential part of our mission, and with your help, we can make a significant impact.”

She expressed gratitude to the patrons who have supported the foundation, enabling it to travel from Accra to Akropong in the Eastern Region. “We want to thank all the patrons whose contributions made our recent travels possible,” she said.

In a new approach, the foundation has incorporated tourism into their literacy activities. “In previous tours, we focused solely on visiting schools and conducting literacy activities. This time, we are fusing them with tourism because we believe that tourism can unveil many wonders to the world. While we tour the country, we are also learning,” Boakye-Danquah explained.

The foundation aims to use tourism as a platform to reach underprivileged children, providing them with both educational and cultural experiences.

For more information and to support the foundation, Irene Boakye-Danquah encouraged following the Readers Bay Foundation on social media.

“Our social media handle is @readersbefoundation on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram.”

The Reading Caravan initiative continues to strive towards making every Ghanaian child’s educational experience comparable to that of their peers in more privileged circumstances or even in European countries, demonstrating that with the right resources and support, such goals are achievable.
