The leadership of the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) led by Chairman, Daniel Agbogah, paid a courtesy call on Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, on Thursday, July 4, 2024, to express their profound gratitude to him for attending the Regional Middle League final in Ho.
The VRFA delegation highlighted challenges facing football development in the region, including inadequate infrastructure and corporate support.
They appealed to the MP to assist in building a strong relationship between football and corporate entities to enhance development.
“We want to thank you for honoring our final, for us. As a group we are committed to giving football a facelift, and we want to bring all our leaders on board,” Mr. Agbogah said.
“Since 2019 when we took charge of football business, we’ve created awareness over 4 years, and we intend to improve football and make it accessible to all in the Volta region and beyond,” He added.
“We need more facilities to help football Infrastructure which is our major problem, football facilities are nothing to write home about, football is now big business and career path knowing the economic strength of our region, we would need the corporate society to get involved,” the RFA Chairman said.
Mr Ablakwa commended the VRFA’s passion and hard work over the period and acknowledged the need for improved sports infrastructure.
The MP further pledged his support for the region’s sporting infrastructure development and encouraged the VRFA to think innovatively to attract corporate support.
“Football has built a lot of ties Internationally, football is not being developed enough, football is in crisis and we have all contributed to it, and we have a lot of work to do,” Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa said.
“List what we can do together, I am ready to support the development of football in the region,” he said.
“I also believe in thinking outside the box, brainstorming on what to do so corporate Ghana can chase,” he added.
The meeting ended with a commitment to collaborate and develop a model for community-based games, and infrastructure, which would benefit the several communities and constituencies as well as promote football growth in the Volta Region.
