The Daily Graphic writeS on the Delta Variant of the COVID-19 pandemic which has been detected in Ghana. The Graphic cautions everyone to be watchful of the Variant because it is more transmissible than the original variant. The paper is concerned that if the country does not exercise vigilance as it did when COVID-19 first hit the country in March last year, it may be seeing in some communities not only the Delta strain but also other variants described by WHO as variants of concern. The paper says although officials at the port of entry are doing their best to arrest the COVID-19 in whatever form it comes they cannot rely on the ports to keep the country safe. The Graphic therefore urges people who think the virus is no longer here to revise their notes and adhere to the safety protocol.
The Ghanaian Times for its part expresses worry over the latest Delta variant which is said to originate from India and has affected indigenes whiles travelling across the world. The paper describes the severity of the variant saying 34 cases of the strain have been detected in senior high schools and workplaces among others. According to the Times, experts say although vaccines so far can fight all the variants of the pandemic, they do not give hundred per cent immunity. It is in this vein that the paper appeals to Ghanaians to observe the COVID-19 safety protocols to avert a regrettable disaster.
